Clarification and notes around the "right to monetize" update Youtube made to their terms of service.
- Branded (publisher owns the rights to content) embedded videos should be safe from new ads policy.
- Update seems to be targeted to small channels / full-time (video content is not sporadic) content producers. Keep in mind, it would not be a great investment to monetize all videos/content nor would it make sense for Youtube.
The motivation for this update:
- Push viewers into premium paid subscriptions (ad-free)
- Monetize viral or highly viewed videos from content creators not in their existing partner program.
- Expand their addressable advertising marketing ahead of looming privacy regulations.
