What are Articles?
Your organization might differentiate between "blog posts", "statements", "press releases", or many other types of editorial content. The UMD Terp Theme simplifies all this by calling them all "articles". UMD Terp Article can be used to create any kind of editorial content for publication to the site.
These guidelines focus on adding the pre-configured widgets and views on a page (such as using the Views widget to add an Articles feed). Creating custom views is considered an advanced feature of Drupal as they can cause unexpected visual effects to any site using the templates. Creating or altering views should only be completed by an experienced Drupal developer.
Accessibility Concerns
Because of the accessibility concerns around documents, like pdfs, or word processing documents (ie: Microsoft word, Apple’s Pages, Libre Office, Google Docs, etc), the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) strongly recommends transferring the content from those formats into one of the 5 layouts made available by the templates, such as UMD Terp Article, or UMD Terp Basic Page.
What is a meta tag?
Meta tags for Social Media
For social media, meta tags provide information like specific titles, and descriptions, as well as a preferred image for when they are shared to those platforms. You see this often on Facebook or Twitter where a copy/pasted URL will be replaced with a card displaying the provided meta tag content.
Along with the UMD Terp Footer Settings that make it possible to customize your site’s contact information and social media channels, you can also add a menu of links right above that contact information. These links, like the rest of the footer, will appear on every page of your site. This is a perfect space for links to a contact form or sites affiliated with your organization.
While Adding a page to the Main Menu can be completed from the page itself, it’s sometimes easier to get a broader view of all the pages that are accessible from a site’s main navigation.
Caution, this can break your site: Changing these settings will break links to pages and other content if you are not familiar with the overall structure of your site, and how a website’s hierarchy works in general.
The UMD Terp theme comes with a number of options to tailor the site to your organization’s needs from setting a custom logo to dictating social media accounts.
